Warrior, AL, US is a city located in Jefferson and Shelby counties, established in 1916. It was named after the Creek Indian word "warrior," meaning "big knife." The city experienced growth during World War II with the construction of the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company's Fairfield Works. Warrior is home to the Alabama Wildlife Center, a notable landmark known for its rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned native birds. Today, Warrior has a population of approximately 18,000 and is a part of the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area.
