Truckee, California, located in Nevada County, is named after a Paiute chief. The city was incorporated in 1869, following the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. Originally a logging community, Truckee transformed into a tourist destination with the construction of the Lake Tahoe Railroad in 1900. The town is known for its historic downtown district, which features over 100 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Truckee Railroad Depot.
