Loxahatchee, Florida, US is an unincorporated community located in Palm Beach County. It was originally named "Loxahatchee Groves" and was primarily used for agricultural purposes, particularly pineapple farming. In 1955, the area was incorporated into the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, which now covers over 145,000 acres and is known for its diverse wildlife, including the endangered Everglades snail kite. The name "Loxahatchee" comes from the Seminole word meaning "river of turtles."
