LaGrange, Georgia, US, founded in 1828, is the county seat of Troup County. It was named after the French town of La Grange, where the Marquis de Lafayette, a French hero of the American Revolution, once owned a farm. The city played a significant role during the Civil War as a hospital town and later as a center for textile manufacturing. Today, it is known for the Hills & Dales Estate, a historic site and museum featuring the Callaway family's 19th-century Italianate mansion and gardens.
