Rensselaer, Indiana, US, founded in 1834, is the county seat of Jasper County. It was named after the Rensselaer family, who were prominent in New York state politics and education. The town was platted by David Boone, a cousin of the famous frontiersman Daniel Boone. A notable landmark is the St. Joseph's College campus, a four-year liberal arts college with Gothic-style architecture, founded in 1889.
