Hopkinsville, Kentucky, US, founded in 1796 and incorporated in 1804, is the county seat of Christian County. It was named after Samuel Hopkins, an early settler and Revolutionary War veteran. The city played a significant role during the American Civil War as a major Union supply base. Hopkinsville is home to the historic Jefferson Davis Monument, a 351-foot concrete obelisk commemorating the Confederate president's birthplace in nearby Fairview, Kentucky.
