Monticello is a village in Sullivan County, New York, United States, founded in 1804 by John Young. It is known as the "Gateway to the Catskills" and has a rich history in tourism, starting as a popular summer resort area in the late 19th century. The village is home to the Monticello Raceway, a harness racing track open since 1958, which features a historic art deco clubhouse. Today, Monticello has a diverse population of around 6,500 and serves as a gateway to numerous outdoor recreational activities in the Catskill Mountains.
