Milton-Freewater is a city in Umatilla County, Oregon, US, established in 1886 and incorporated in 1903. The city was initially named "Freewater" after the local creek, but was later changed to "Milton" to honor former governor Stephen F. Chadwick's middle name. In 1976, the two names were combined to form Milton-Freewater. The city is known for its wine production, with over 30 wineries and 1,400 acres of vineyards, and is part of the Columbia Valley AVA. A notable landmark is the historic Milton-Freewater Water Tower, built in 1928, which stands as a reminder of the city's past.
