Mount Carmel is a borough in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. Established in 1864, the town was named after Mount Carmel in Israel. It is known for its rich coal mining history and was once a major industrial center. The borough is home to the famous "Breaker Boys" statue, a tribute to the young boys who worked in the coal breakers during the early 20th century. Today, Mount Carmel has a population of approximately 6,000 and covers an area of 1.1 square miles.
