Norvelt, PA, US is a historic census-designated place in Westmoreland County. It was established in 1934 as a planned community for coal miners, designed by the United States Resettlement Administration. The town was originally named "Westmoreland Homesteads" and was later renamed to "Norvelt" in honor of Eleanor Roosevelt. Norvelt is known for its well-preserved historic architecture, with many homes featuring the original stone and brick construction. The town's community center, built in 1937, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
