Cotulla, Texas, located in La Salle County, was established in the mid-1800s and named after a Mexican general, José Cotulla. The town became a significant stop on the San Antonio-Mexico Military Road and later developed as a ranching and farming community. In the 1920s, oil was discovered, leading to a population boom. Today, Cotulla is known for its agriculture, oil production, and the historic La Salle County Courthouse, built in 1916, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
