Van Alstyne is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States, with a population of approximately 3,500 as of 2019. It was established in the late 1870s as a railroad town and named after William Clark Van Alstyne, a civil engineer for the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad. The city is known for its annual events, such as the Freedom Festival and the Christmas Parade, and its historic downtown area, which features the Van Alstyne depot, a notable landmark that was built in 1873 and served as a passenger and freight station until the 1960s.
