West Point, Virginia is a historic town located in the Middle Peninsula region of the state. It was established in 1691 as a colonial port town and served as a major center for tobacco trade. During the Civil War, West Point was an important river crossing and was the site of a Confederate prison camp. Today, it is home to the historic Lee's Hall Mansion, a Greek Revival-style plantation house built in 1859, which is a popular tourist attraction. The town has a population of approximately 3,500 people.
