Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, US, is a city of approximately 7,600 residents, located in Walworth County. The city is named after Geneva Lake, a popular tourist destination with a maximum depth of 142 feet and a surface area of 5,262 acres. The lake was originally called "Big Foot" by the Potawatomi Native Americans, in reference to a leader named Chief Big Foot. In 1836, the lake's name was changed to Geneva by settlers, who intended to develop a resort community similar to Geneva, New York. The city is known for its historic estate district, which features many mansions built by wealthy Chicagoans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
