The city is named after its location on the highland "altos montes" overlooking the surrounding area. Altamonte Springs is known for the Altamonte Springs Mall, a major regional shopping center, and Crane's Roost Park, a popular recreational area with a lake and amphitheater. The city has a population of approximately 43,000 people as of 2020.
