Savannah, Georgia, founded in 1733, is the oldest city in the U.S. state of Georgia and its former capital. It was established by General James Oglethorpe, who intended it to be a buffer zone against Spanish Florida. Savannah's historic district, which covers 2.2 square miles, has numerous well-preserved buildings dating from the 18th through the 20th centuries. This district is home to the famous Forsyth Park, a 30-acre park designed in the mid-19th century, featuring walking paths, a café, and a picturesque fountain.
