Wheaton, Maryland, US is a census-designated place in Montgomery County. It was named after Wingate Washington Wheaton, a lawyer and judge who owned a summer estate there. The town was originally part of a 19th-century land grant called "Brookeville Farm." Wheaton is known for its large shopping center, Westfield Wheaton, which was the first air-conditioned shopping mall in the Washington, D.C. area.
