Jacksonville, North Carolina, located in Onslow County, was established in 1842 and incorporated in 1849. It is the county seat and the largest city in Onslow County. The city's growth was largely due to its designation as the home of the United States Marine Corps' Camp Lejeune in 1941. The Montford Point Marine Museum, a notable landmark, honors the African American Marines who trained there during World War II, before integration of the Marine Corps.
