Maple Shade is a township in Burlington County, New Jersey, US, established in 1892. It was originally a part of the now-defunct Shamong Township. The township was named for the abundant maple trees in the area. Maple Shade is home to the historic Indian King Tavern, a National Historic Landmark, which served as the state's first capitol building. Today, the township is primarily a residential area with a population of approximately 19,000.
