Longview is a city in Gregg County, Texas, US, established in 1870. It was named after the long view of the countryside afforded by its location on a hilltop. The city played a significant role in the Texas oil boom of the early 20th century. The Great Texas Oil Field, one of the largest oil fields in American history, was discovered nearby in 1930. Today, Longview is a commercial and industrial center with a population of approximately 82,000, and it is home to the popular Gregg County Historical Museum.
