Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), located in Florida, US, is a major base of the United States Air Force. Established in 1935 as Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base, it was renamed in 1937 to Eglin Field in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Frederick I. Eglin, who died in a crash during a flight mission. Covering over 724 square miles, it is the largest Air Force base in the world and is home to the 96th Test Wing, the 53rd Wing, and the Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate.
