Ft Gregg-Adams, located in Hopewell, Virginia, is a historic fort that played a significant role in the American Civil War. It was the site of a fierce battle in April 1865, known as the Battle of Fort Gregg, during the Appomattox Campaign. The fort was originally named Fort Gregg in honor of Confederate General John Gregg, but was later renamed to Fort Gregg-Adams in 1996 to honor the contributions of African American soldiers who served in the fort.
