Bridport, Vermont is a town in Addison County, established in 1763 by Benning Wentworth, colonial governor of New Hampshire. It was named after the English town of Bridport, Dorset. The town covers an area of 41.5 square miles, with a population of approximately 1,200 as of 2010. Bridport is known for its rural character and the historic Champlain Bridge, a 2,184-foot long steel truss bridge built in 1929, which spans Lake Champlain, connecting Vermont to New York.
