Darien, GA, US is a small town in southeastern Georgia, first inhabited by the Mocama people, a tribe in the Timucua confederation. The town was founded in 1736 by Scottish Highlanders and named New Inverness. It played a significant role during the American Revolution as the site of several skirmishes. Today, Darien is known for its historic downtown area, which includes the Fort King George State Historic Site, a restored tabby fort built in 1721.
