The town's economy was dominated by the Magma Mine, which operated until 1971. Now, Taylor is a rural bedroom community with a population of approximately 4,000. Notable attractions include the old Taylor Railroad Depot, which was built in 1907 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
